Restaurants on wheels, aka food trucks, have been extremely popular in Sioux Falls. Several have popped up in the past few years featuring everything from BBQ to pizza to Mediterranean food. You’ll see them at festivals, in front of office buildings during the day and catering to the bar crowd late at night. Since the food trucks move around a lot, the best place to find their location is by “liking” their page on Facebook (we give you link) or following them on Twitter.

With warmer weather coming, the food trucks will be out in full force in the coming weeks. We’ve decided to put together a list of 13 food trucks in Sioux Falls you have to try. Of course, there are several more in the Sioux Empire, so if we missed your favorite, tell us what it is in the comments below or on our Facebook page. The list below is in no particular order

  • Big Rig BBQ

Big Rig BBQ has won several awards for their BBQ. You'll find their truck in front of Home Depot on Louise Avenue. Some of the meats you'll find are pork loin, prime rib, beef brisket and many more. Try their homemade potato salad, coleslaw and chili-style beans. Hopefully you're there on a day they have cinnamon apples or the Texas-sized chocolate chip cookies. They're open at 11:00 AM Tuesday through Sunday and closed Monday. I've driven by on several occasions and they have the "sold out" sign up - so get there early.

  • Skipping Stone Wood-Fired Pizza

Awesome pizza - FAST! Skipping Stone bakes their pizzas at 700 degrees in their mobile wood-fired oven for just 60 seconds. Pizzas you have to try are the Caribbean Jerk Pizza, the Meatier Shower pizza loaded with 3 meats or the BBQ chicken pizza. You'll find them every Saturday, May through October, from 8:00 AM - 1:00 PM at the Falls Park Farmers' Market and at Strawbale Winery on Thursday nights from 5:00 PM - 8:00 PM May through September.

  • Rowdy Hog BBQ

Enjoy their beef brisket and smoked chicken at their store on Marion Road or from their food truck. Check their Facebook page to find the food truck this summer. You'll also see them at Ribfest this year at the W.H. Lyon Fairgrounds. Other delicious menu items include BBQ pork, ribs, potato salad and mac and cheese.

  • Taqueria Sanchez

This Mexican food truck has been around Sioux Falls for a long time. It's the first food truck I remember in the city. They serve tacos, burritos, rice bowls, and more. Try the steak torta with green chile salsa. It's authentic Mexican food. You're usually able to find them at I-229 and East 10th in front of Aloha Computer Repair.

  • Boxcar Beef and Dogs

These guys make some really good Italian beef sandwiches. I know this is not the correct way to eat an Italian beef sandwich, but I don't get peppers on mine, just meat and cheese with extra gravy. Try a Chicago style hot dog along with some chili cheese fries. Most of the time you can find them at their West 12th Street location, by Right Way Automotive or check out their Facebook page for their current location.

  • Squealer's Smoke Shack

There are several BBQ food trucks you can try, and I suggest you try them all.  All of them are different depending on the wood they use or how long they smoke their meat. One to put on your radar is Squealer's Smoke Shack. They specialize in brisket, pulled pork and ribs. All of their sauce is homemade as well as their sides. Try a side of cole slaw, smoked beans or mac and cheese. They almost make some tasty pork and brisket nachos. To find their current location, check out their Facebook page.

  • Street Eat'n

Street Eat'n is not your typical South Dakota food truck. If you want unique flavors that tingle your taste buds, you should check out this truck. They serve Vietnamese tacos and gyros, hot pastrami sandwiches, burgers, soups, housemade Asian dumplings and one of their most popular items, bacon mac and cheese egg rolls. Their menu changes all the time. Check their Facebook page to find them.

  • Swamp Daddy's Cajun Kitchen

Authentic soul food, that's what you'll find at Swamp Daddy's. Their menu changes, but some of the items you'll find include jambalaya, smoke sausage or catfish po-boys, cajun chicken pasta and more. Check out their Facebook page for their location.

  • My Place Mobile Cafe

This food truck is just down-home good cookin'. They even serve breakfast. It should be called Comfort Food Mobile Cafe. They serve biscuits and gravy, goulash, cheesy ham and hash brown casserole, tuna salad sandwiches and so much more. Make sure you grab a homemade dessert like brownies or peach cobbler. Their menu changes all the time, but everything hits the spot. Check out their Facebook page for their location and hours.

  • Scotty D's BBQ

I've eaten at this food truck in Yankton. They go to several different towns with their BBQ, including Sioux Falls. Check their Facebook page to see when they are going to be in Sioux Falls. The menu includes pulled pork sandwiches, smoked beef brisket sandwiches, mac and cheese, cheesy hash browns, BBQ pit beans, potato salad, macaroni salad, pork and beef nachos, baby back ribs and more!

  • Dakota Snow

Look for their tie-dyed trailer and enjoy a refreshing treat. The finely shaved ice absorbs all the flavors for a scrumptious goody. I'm old school. I like the standard cherry flavor. If you want to get a little crazy, try the orchid cream vanilla or peanut butter flavor shaved ice. You'll find them on Spring Avenue across from Staples (next to Two Wheeler Dealer) or at several locations around the Sioux Empire this summer. Check out their Facebook page for locations and hours.

  • BellaLuna Mobile Wood-Fired Pizza

You can't miss this food truck. It's a '51 Chevy pickup equipped with a wood fire oven. You'll see the pickup out and about at several area events this summer. Try the goat cheese and basil pesto pizza or the chicken alfredo pizza. Your taste buds will love the Thai chicken pizza made with a spicy-sweet peanut sauce. Check their Facebook page to find their next location.

  • The Rib Shack

The menu includes pulled pork sandwiches, pulled chicken sandwiches, pork spare ribs, pulled beef brisket and sliced beef brisket. Add a side or two to your order. The food truck is usually located in front of King's Mart on North Cliff, but travels to several events and locations in the Sioux Empire all year round.
