On Saturday, tragedy struck the horse racing world prior to the running of the Preakness as two horses died.

Homeboykris ended up winning his race on Saturday and after he got his picture taken in the winners circle, he collapsed and died on the way back to the barn.

According to ESPN.com, track officials believe the 9-year-old gelding suffered cardiovascular collapse and that was the reason for the death.

Paramedic ended up being euthanized after breaking her left front leg as well.

Injuries in horse racing aren't uncommon, but the fact that it resulted in two deaths prior to another historic running of the Preakness, was just added sadness to what should be a joyous day of racing.
