2015 Class AA Girls Basketball Tournament Day One Results

The first day of the 2015 Class AA Girls Basketball Tournament from Brookings has been completed with four teams moving on to the semi-finals.

• Class AA Boys Tournament Field Set with Three Sioux Falls Teams

Top seeded O'Gorman opened the day by quickly jumping out on the eight seeded Huron Tigers. O'Gorman started on a 10-0 run and never looked back, defeating Huron 76-32. Dale Stene led the Knights with 19 points, while Jessica Mieras had 10 points and 8 rebounds.

The fifth seed Aberdeen Central held off a late rally from Rapid City Stevens in the 4th quarter to secure their spot in the semi-finals with a 46-43 win. Payton Burckhard scored 15, and fell one assist short of a double-double for the Golden Eagles. Brianna Kusler added 12 points and seven assist. Rapid City Stevens outscored Aberdeen Central 19-9 in the fourth quarter, but fell short. The Raiders were led by Kaitlyn King's 12 points.

Huron and Rapid City Stevens will start Friday's session in the consolation semi-final round at 12:00. Aberdeen Central will face O'Gorman in the first championship semi-final at 6:00 on Friday night.

A tightly contested game between Harrisburg and Pierre opened the second session of the day. Heading into the 4th quarter, Harrisburg led Pierre by one point. The Tigers, led by  Danni Honner's 22 points, outscored Pierre 13-5 in the fourth to win 45-36.

It was a all Sioux Falls battle in the nap cap from Brookings between two city rivals. Sioux Falls Washington and Lincoln faced off in a rubber match as the two teams split the regular season series. Washington used a strong first and third quarter to take control of the game. The Warriors punched their ticket to the semi-finals winning 67-55. Lincoln never held the lead in the game. Washington was led by Sydney Arrington's 25 points (quarterfinal high of the day), and Anna Goodhope's 14 points. Lincoln's Ellie Brecht had 20 on the night.

Pierre will meet Sioux Falls Lincoln in a consolation semi-final game in the afternoon, while Washington and Harrisburg will play for a second time in a week and a half in the championship semi-final bracket.
