I've been golfing plenty of times in Florida and seen plenty of crazy creatures on the course.

From gators to snakes to lizards, they come in all shapes and sizes.

A friend of mine recently was golfing in Florida and was warned about cat-eating lizards. When he told me, I laughed and really thought the course was just messing with him.

Then I read this article from Yahoo and it confirmed his story.  There are 8-foot carnivorous cat-eating lizards invading Florida at a rapid rate.

But another creature that Florida wildlife officers are trying to get a handle on is the Nile monitor lizard, a cousin of the most famous monitor lizard, the Komodo dragon, which has been spreading through the state since at least 1990. The lizards are native to almost all of Sub-Saharan Africa and grow up to 5 feet long on average, with large specimens reaching 7 or 8 feet.

I'm not a fan of snakes or gators, but I have never really been scared of a lizard - until now!

So if you are planning a trip or a golf getaway to Florida, make sure you have the 7-iron close in case you have to fend off a carnivorous lizard while you are there.
