In a plot line seemingly plucked straight from the early days of the pop icon's career, Lady Gaga plays a struggling musician with a powerful set of pipes in the highly anticipated trailer for A Star Is Born, Bradley Cooper's remake of both the iconic 1954 and 1976 films of the same name.

In the trailer, released Wednesday (June 6), Gaga plays an uncertain dive bar singer named Ally, who gets swept up in the lights and cameras of fame when Cooper's washed out country star, Jackson, takes her under his wing — and into his heart.

Back in April, Cooper opened up about how Gaga coaxed him into singing live in the film.

"When I approached her for it, she said, ‘Well, we’re going to sing live.’ I said, ‘You’ll sing live because I don’t sing.’ And she said, ‘No, no, what I can’t stand in movies is when you see playback and that they’re lip-syncing. We’re going to sing live.’ I knew we were going to have to do that, and luckily I had time and I had wonderful support," the actor and director shared.

A Star Is Born, which hits theaters October 5, will be Cooper's directorial debut, as well as see Gaga step into the role of leading lady for the first time.

On Twitter, the singer gushed about the film, sharing, "It’s a dream come true and an honor to be a part of this incredible movie. Bradley's ability as a director, actor and musician is astounding."
