Our good friends and news partners Kevin Hurd and Sarah Blakely of KDLT came by my newsroom on Wednesday to talk about the world of television news!

No doubt about it! Sarah loves her job!

"There is something special about a morning show compared with other news broadcasts. For me---I really like the mix of the stories. We do talk a lot about serious events that our viewers need to know. But we also have the opportunity to have a lot of fun and showcase our personalities."

Kevin shares his partner's love for the business!

"Aside from presenting the news, we also are entertainers as well. Sure we want to get the mornings off to the right start everyday. Five in the morning when we start---people are barely awake and we know that. Both Sarah and I are hyped up for the show especially when there is breaking news. We are always right on top of the story and make those important calls in the mornings. I think a lot of times when we can be out there, we are one of the first media outlets to be on the scene. Of course, we might not have all the details at first. But our news staff works together to get the information and make sure it's accurate."

So, how do Sarah, Kevin and the KDLT news staff decide on what stories to include in the morning segments? Sarah offered this response!

"We focus a lot on the stories that perhaps were first aired on the late night broadcasts and our morning viewers didn't get a chance to see the shows. People who are up early in the morning probably didn't catch the nightly news. We do have new content that takes place overnight. We also feature lots of interviews on our program. Perhaps Kevin and I will take a look at upcoming events and current topics we can flush out. The other week we had someone come in and talk about FDA changes on the labeling on some pain killers. Instead of just airing a news headline, we provide much needed additional information about the story."

Aside from their television work, Sarah, Kevin and the news staff are also assisting us in our daily programs!  It's a partnership that benefits both our listeners and the viewers of KDLT!
