They aren't your children's coloring books!  Move over 'My Little Pony' and 'Transformers' and make room for 'Flower Fashion Fantasies', 'Secret Garden: An Inky Treasure Hunt' and 'Color Your Way to Calm'.  A new trend in coloring books are topping the best-seller charts this summer, but these coloring books aren't for your children. These are for adults. (NO! They aren't THAT type of coloring book!)

In fact, at one time during the summer months, adult coloring books took as many as eight of the top 20 spots in a check of Amazon’s best-seller list. Titles that include 'Creative Cats' and 'Adult Coloring Book: Stress Relieving Patterns' continue to remain top sellers.

Dover Publications has sold more than three-million adult coloring books and Quarto Publishing will have about 1.3 million coloring books in print this year alone.

According to Amy Yodanis, Quarto Publishing's head of marketing,

We cannot print them fast enough. We are getting orders of 60,000 at one time from some of our biggest retailers.

But why has a childhood pass time now become so popular with adults? Jeannine Dillon, from Quarto Publishing believes STRESS is a main reason. She says,

People are stressed and anxious all the time. Coloring is a way to calm down and unwind at the end of the day.

Adults that color often refer to their coloring habit as 'art therapy'. It can be considered a perfect stress reliever because it is a perfect hobby. Coloring books are easy to carry around, they require no batteries, and no technology is needed. Coloring really doesn't require any classes, you don't have to count any calories while coloring and you don't have to worry about outscoring an opponent.

And, unlike a hobby that may include pottery, painting, sewing or knitting, the finished product doesn't take up any room. (Unless you decide to frame your finished picture!)

The allure of adult coloring continues to gain popularity. Already, coloring clubs are popping up, there are adult coloring contests and the popularity wouldn't be complete without several social media coloring sites. Dover Publications is even planning a National Coloring Book Day on Sunday, August 2, 2015.

Whether you use crayons, markers or colored pencils, coloring is quickly becoming an easy way for adults to help reduce stress in a hectic world.
