Perhaps you were like me on Monday night and ushered in the New Year watching Psy with Ryan Seacrest on Dick Clark's New Years Rockin Eve?

Psy's "Gangham Style" dance ended up being one of the most viewed videos on YouTube in 2012.

Who's to say if it will stand the test of time the way YMCA and the chicken dance have, but if it ends up being anything like all the other forgotten dance trends that were once all the rage, it will more than likely fade off into oblivion too.

My guess is Gangnam will probably join some of the other blasts from the past like:

  • Macarena: You remember the Macarena right? It was by far the most popular dance of the 90's. But if you ask kids today what the Macarena is, they look at you as if you just asked them to recite the Gettysburg Address in Swahili.
  • Soulja Boy: It was a huge internet sensation back in 2007.
  • Cha Cha Slide: This dance was the modern version of the electric slide. It didn’t stay popular for very long.
  • The Dougie: Oddly enough, my wife was trying to teach our relatives the “Dougie” over the holidays. This dance is still somewhat relevant with men thanks to Kate Upton’s version of the dance in a bikini.

All this old-school dance talk has me in the mood to pop in my VHS copy of Flashdance. After all, who doesn’t enjoy a good ole’ Jennifer Beal’s movie right?
