AMARILLO, TX -- The Amarillo Sox scored nine runs in four innings en route to a 9-3 defeat of the Sioux Falls Canaries on Sunday night, capping a three-game sweep in Amarillo.

Amarillo (16-12) has won six straight games, while the Canaries (12-18) have lost five of their last six contests. They are 0-3 thus far on their 10-game Texas road trip.

Canaries starter Ben Moore (3-2) struck out five Amarillo batters but suffered the loss after Joe Weik's two-run double broke a 2-2 tie in the fourth inning. Moore is now three strikeouts shy of breaking the career franchise strikeout record, 519 set by Rich Hyde. He threw six innings, allowing four runs on eight hits. He did not walk anybody and has impressively walked just one batter all season (49 1/3 innings pitched).

The Canaries grabbed a quick 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning when Nick Van Stratten led off with his league-leading fifth triple of the year and scored on Cory Morales' single. But Amarillo starter Jason Mitchell (2-2) quieted the Birds from there, scattering just four more hits and one run in six innings pitched. He did not walk anybody and struck out six.

Amarillo went ahead 2-1 on Trey Ford's two-run home run in the fifth inning, but the Birds tied it in the top of the sixth when J.P. Ramirez singled home Van Stratten. Amarillo added a run in the seventh on a dropped fly ball and then unloaded for four more runs in the eighth inning. Seven men reached safely before the first out was recorded.

Ford led Amarillo's offense, going 3-for-4 with three RBI.

Van Stratten went 2-for-5 with a double, triple and two runs scored. Jake Taylor saw an 11-game hitting streak come to end. He nearly homered in the sixth inning, but the ballpark's spacious dimensions in right center field held in his drive.

The Canaries open a three-game series against the Laredo Lemurs at 7:30 p.m. on Monday in Laredo.
