Apart from trick or treating (duh!) carving a pumpkin used to be my favorite Halloween tradition. Going out to a store or a pumpkin patch and picking the 'right one'. Taking it home, covering the table with newspapers, cutting off the top and digging all the goop out with my bare hands.

I remember the first year my mom let me do all the carving. I hacked into that poor gourd and the results, let's say were far from a work of art. A friend's daughter carved the one above and I can say with confidence that this is high art when compared to what I was able to accomplish.

Sculptor Ray Villafane from Michigan and his team have taken pumpkin carving to new heights. They spend on average, two hours carving these masterpieces. Some are scary monsters, some are movie characters, and all are incredibly cool!
