Cancer strikes one in two men and one in three women in their lifetimes. Thanks to innovative cancer screenings, treatments and therapies, nearly 15 million cancer survivors are living in America today.

Dr. Richard Wender, chief cancer control officer of the American Cancer Society, will speak to physicians, patients and the public about the importance of public policy in the fight against cancer Thursday, October 8, 2015 11:30am at the Holiday Inn City Centre

Specifically he will address the role lawmakers play in cancer research funding and access to quality health  care, including access to colon cancer screenings. It’s estimated more than 1 in 3 adults age 50 or older are not getting tested for colon cancer as recommended. Removing barriers to such screenings—including through broader access to state Medicaid programs and closing a federal loophole in Medicare coverage of colon cancer screenings—are just a few of the critical issues to be discussed.
