Another Successful Run for Irene Rodeo

They call it the peaceful little town in the valley. I call it a South Dakota gem. Irene, South Dakota.

This past weekend my family and I were off to the river.  As soon as we hit I-29 I noticed quite a few horse trailers on the road. I didn't think much of it until we headed west out of Bereseford. When I saw more trailers it reminded me, this was the weekend for the Irene Rodeo.

Many smaller towns around South Dakota have a rodeo during the summer months. These rodeos are more than just an event, they are a chance for small towns to come together, chip in and help put their town on the map. In many cases they are the glue that holds small towns together and bring people together in the community working for a common cause.

The SDRA Rodeo circuit started up in March with two shows at the WH Lyon Fairgrounds. Crooks was one of the first summer rodeos around these parts, Irene this past weekend. The summer schedule continues with Wall, Burke, Winner, Scotland. There are others around the state but these are some of the ones that are close to Sioux Falls.

If you get a chance to check out a SDRA Rodeo make sure you do. South Dakota has produced some fine rodeo athletes over the years and there are tons of good hands out there that are fun to watch.

We're also looking forward to PRCA action here in South Dakota. We're just a couple weeks away from the Corn Palace Stampede in Mitchell, SD.
