Curiosity is defined as the desire to learn or know about anything; inquisitiveness. I have always thought curiosity was a quality which could lead someone to very dual states of existence; either happy discovery or sorrowful revelation. In any case, I've always believed that without curiosity you stagnate, lose interest in your own life and the world around you.

It has never occurred to me that many people lose their curiosity at some point after leaving childhood and never look back. I came across an article "7 Questions That Will Keep You Curious" that could help you retrieve or retain your childlike wonder of the world and thought I would pass along some of the questions you can ask yourself in that quest.

  • Where do I want to be? - -This question can help you take an analytical look at your life as it is now as well as envision a future encompassing what you ultimately would like you life to be. The vision may change often, but doing this ensures that you constantly stretch your horizons.
  • What makes me come alive?- - Finding something you're passionate about can be difficult for some people, so soul-searching from time-to-time about what inspires you can also open your eyes and heart to something that might be missing in your life.
  • What is my purpose in life?- -Or as some of us may ask ourselves, "why am I here, what was I put on this earth to do?" Asking this question of ourselves pushes us to continue the search for an answer, thus piquing our curiosity about what may be around the corner or a new goal we'd like to reach.

Here are just a few great thoughts on curiosity:

“Curiosity is, in great and generous minds, the first passion and the last.”
Samuel Johnson, Works of Samuel Johnson

“The important thing is not to stop questioning. Curiosity has its own reason for existing.”
Albert Einstein

“Around here, however, we don't look backwards for very long. We keep moving forward, opening up new doors and doing new things, because we're curious...and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths.”
Walt Disney Company

“The public have an insatiable curiosity to know everything, except what is worth knowing.”
Oscar Wilde, The Soul of Man Under Socialism, and Selected Critical Prose
