Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson capped his historic season with his first MVP award Saturday.

AP missed the all-time rushing record by just nine yards in a season played fresh off tearing his ACL and MCL on Christmas 2011.

Peterson rushed for 2,097 yards on the season, scored 12 touchdowns, averaged a ridiculous six yards per carry on the year and led the Vikings to an improbable post-season appearance.

Peterson didn't sweep the awards for MVP and Comeback Player of the Year honors, which went to Denver QB Peyton Manning.

Peterson DID win Offensive Player of the year however, with Defensive honors going to Houston's J.J. Watt.

Washington QB Robert Griffin III was named the league's Rookie of the Year.

On a day that saw Peterson get the MVP and Cris Carter elected to the Hall of Fame, it was a very good day to be a Vikings fan.
