PIERRE, S.D –  South Dakota Highway Patrol confirms the standoff at a Brule County residence has ended and the subject has surrendered without incident. The subject, Donald London, 42, of Kimball, S.D., had barricaded himself in his residence located at 24732 360th, yesterday afternoon and continued to remain there until 3:15 p.m.thisafternoon.

Col. Craig Price, superintendent of the South Dakota Highway Patrol said, “This has beenalongstressful24hoursfor everyone involved with this standoff situation. We are thankful the officers were able to take London into custody without incident, and that there were no further injuries. Our goal was to make sure that we executed our plan as safely as possible for the officers, the public, as well as the individual involved.”

Agencies assisting in the incident are the South Dakota Highway Patrol, Brule County Sheriff's Office, Minnehaha County Sheriff's Office, Aurora County Sheriff's Office, Buffalo County Sheriff's Office, Lyman County Sheriff's Office, Jerauld County Sheriff's Office, Mitchell Police Department, Chamberlain Police Department, South Dakota Game Fish and Parks and the South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation.

The case will continue to be investigated by the South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation.

Negotiations continued throughout the night in the Brule County standoff. Donald London, 42, of Kimball, S.D., remains barricaded at his residence located at 24732 360th, Ave., in Kimball.

Michael London, 66, of Kimball, was arrested on one count of accessory to aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, class 5 felony, punishable by up to 5 years imprisonment and/or $10,000 fine.

The South Dakota Highway Patrol Trooper who was injured as part of this incident was Sergeant John Koenig. Koenig is a 28 year veteran with the patrol who was stationed in Chamberlain, S.D. His condition remains stable.

This incident has involved a large number of law enforcement officers and emergency responders. SWAT teams from the Minnehaha County Sheriff’s Office and S.D. Highway Patrol have been involved since yesterday and Command Posts from South Falls Police Department and the Division of Criminal Investigation have been activated. Tactical vehicles from three agency locations have deployed in response to the incident.

 

This would be considered a standoff of the highest degree as a man has barricaded himself inside a house in rural Brule County residence.

Earlier on Wednesday, 42 year old Donald London made threats to law enforcement.  Upon encountering London in an effort to question him heandanothermanwentinsidetheresidencewherethestandoffcontinues.  A South Dakota Highway Patrolman was shot and is currently in serious condition.  The wound is not considered to be life-threatening.  Numerous law enforcement agencies are assisting with the effort and a negotiation is underway.  The man who was withLondoninthehouseattheoutsetofthisincidentleft the residence around 8pm Wednesday evening.  

Details are still filtering through. However the Attorney General’s Office sent out an official statement late Wednesday afternoon.

Law enforcement is dealing with a very serious situation involving a standoff in a residence in rural Brule County.  The Brule County Sheriff’s Office, South Dakota Highway Patrol and the Division of Criminal Investigation are all on scene.  The public, as well as all media sources are being asked to please stay away from this location until it has been resolved.  Additional details will be released as soon as possible.

Kimball is approximately 120 miles west of Sioux Falls.
