Baumann Homers Twice In Birds’ Lopsided Loss
SIOUX FALLS – The Lincoln Saltdogs scored early and often en route to a 13-4 defeat of the Sioux Falls Canaries on Tuesday night at Sioux Falls Stadium.
Lincoln (14-11) never looked back after Tyler Goodro doubled home two runs in the first inning off Canaries starter Austin Brough (0-2), who made his first professional start. Goodro was one of eight Lincoln batters with multiple hits, finishing 4-for-6 with four RBI.
The Saltdogs scored a run in the second inning and then unloaded for six runs in the third inning, highlighted by Mike Provencher’s three-run home run, to open a 9-0 lead.
Jake Taylor doubled home a run in the Canaries’ half of the third inning, and he plated when Nate Baumann followed with a two-run home run, cutting the lead to 9-3.
Baumann also led off the fifth inning with a solo home run. He has three round-trippers this season; all have come in the last five games. Taylor and Bauman each went 2-for-5.
Brough suffered the loss in his starting debut, yielding nine runs, eight earned, in five innings. He walked two and struck out four.
Travis Parker made a spot start for Lincoln and exited after the third inning. Eddie McKiernan (3-1) earned the win with four innings of one-run relief.
Lincoln has taken the first two games of the series. The Canaries record dropped to 11-15.
The finale of the series is at12:05 p.m. on Wednesday at Sioux Falls Stadium.
