When I was a kid I dressed up for Halloween, but just barely.  You know a "Hobo", "Ghost", "Kid from Iowa".  A costume was just a means to an end.  The end was to collect as much candy as possible with the least amount of capital outlay and effort.

When we had kids, my wife did not share this philosophy.  She wanted "CUTE".  Over the years my son and daughter were transformed into Ninja Turtles, Berenstain Bears, a variety of Sesame Street Muppets, and indeed even Transformers themselves.
