A new law goes into effect Wednesday in South Dakota that gives bicyclists more room on the roads of South Dakota.

The new law, passed  unanimously by both the House and Senate, says if the speed limit is 35 MPH or less, motorists are required to give a three-foot buffer between the right side of the vehicle and the left side of the bicycle. If the speed limit is greater than 35 MPH , it's a six-foot buffer between vehicle and bicycle.

Even if Sioux Falls bicyclists are making good use of the bike trails, we still need to get to them by using the city streets. This is where bicyclists need a little more room for safety.
