Boy Finds $10,000.00 in Hotel Room

I once found a wrinkled $5 Cold Stone Creamery coupon in a jacket pocket. I guess this kind of tops that.

According to the Associated Press 10-year-old Tyler Schaefer found $10,000 big ones in a drawer at a Kansas City hotel where he and his dad were staying.

Tyler and his truck driving dad, Cody, were staying in the hotel near the airport where the younger Schaefer found the neatly stacked bills in their room.

Cody Schaefer is from Rapid City, S.D. and was meeting his former wife in Kansas City to get his three children for summer vacation.

Police said it's unclear how long the money had been there, and they can't track down every guest who stayed in that room recently.

According to a Missouri statute, lost money could revert to a finder after about seven months if no one can prove ownership.

My question is really? Police in Kansas City can't track down every guest who recently stayed in a hotel room? Couldn't they maybe just ask the front desk clerk to look it up on the computor?
