A woman and her cat are safe thanks to the quick actions of first responders in Brookings and it was caught on a deputy's body cam.

The hand of the 78-year-old woman was spotted in a window of the burning house. Deputy Michael Gengler sprung into action, with the help of Sgt. Jon Pike and a firefighter, busting out the window and clearing debris and things in front of the window to haul the woman out. She was taken to the hospital and treated for smoke inhalation.

Both officers were received the Medal of Merit Award on June 16 for their actions.
