Even the hope of a rainy week couldn't stop the addition of Minnehaha County to the growing list of burn ban locations across the state.

County Emergency Manager Lynn De Young addressed the Minnehaha County Commission with concerns on Tuesday April 7, 2015 and the Commission voted to enact the ban.

Over 90 percent of South Dakota is in drought conditions. Burning in containers is still permissible, however flames, sparks and ashes must all be kept within the container.

A fire pit with a covered container is permitted, but if flames, sparks or ashes escape the container, it would be in violation.

The burn ban issues will be revisited as weather and drought conditions change.
