Considering Twitter is the easiest medium for which celebs to communicate with fans, the press and one another, it's no surprise that a lot of famous folk are sort of addicted to it. So much so that when they leave, they come right back.

These stars all tried, but they just couldn't quit Twitter!

  • Nicki Minaj

    @NICKIMINAJ

    Nicki Minaj had over 11 million followers when she quit Twitter. Why'd she leave? She had an online spat with one of her fansites after they leaked music from her most recent album, 'Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded.' A" voice in my head told me to delete my Twitter and that's what I did," she said. "I had 11 million followers and I hope they will wait for me."

    And they did ... well, most of them, anyway. When Minaj returned to Twitter a whopping nine days later, she still had 9.2 million followers.

  • Charlie Sheen

    @CharlieSheen

    After a 16-month rollercoaster ride on Twitter, ranting about everything from 'Two And a Half Men' to his goddesses, Charlie Sheen posted what was to be a final missive in July 2012, telling his 8 million followers to "reach for the stars."

    About a month later, though, he was back, explaining that he missed his fans ... but that he'd keep his tweeting "professional" from hereon out. And apparently it worked, because he upped his follower count by another 2 million. #winning!

  • Matthew McConaughey

    @mcconaughey

    Matthew McConaughey was wary of Twitter for a while. In 2009, the bongo-lovin' actor lamented, "Man, that Twitter deal, that's pretty bad, right?" He was worried about letting people know when and where he was available at all times. Perhaps realizing that, you know, he doesn't actually have to do that to tweet, he's been an active user since summer 2010.

  • Lady Gaga

    @ladygaga

    Mother Monster went dark on Twitter for weeks leading up to 'ARTPOP' promo in an effort to build buzz. And like everything else Lady Gaga does to garner attention, it worked like a charm.

  • Zac Efron

    @ZacEfron

    Zac Efron said back in 2009 that he was avoiding social networks in an effort to maintain his privacy (perhaps in part to avoid accidentally pulling a Bret Easton Ellis and publicly tweeting a drug dealer for a hit). However, the rehabbed and recovered star -- or maybe just his team -- is now using Twitter for the promotional tool that it is.

  • Adele

    @OfficialAdele

    The super-private chanteuse avoided Twitter for a while, only tweeting herself after her boyfriend Simon Konecki's charity received 10,000 followers. Once Adele finally started her own 140-character missives, she quickly backed off when some macadamias started harassing her and issuing death threats to her newborn son. Thankfully, the '21' singer soon returned, haters be damned.

  • Liam Hemsworth

    @LiamHemsworth

    Liam Hemsworth was a motivator in Miley Cyrus' Twitter hiatus. The Aussie actor avoided the medium as long as he could, but recently had his team post promotional tweets ... and made headlines when he unfollowed his most famous ex.

  • Sylvester Stallone

    @TheSlyStallone

    Liam Hemsworth's 'Expendables 2' costar Sylvester Stallone shunned Twitter, explaining in February 2013, "I used to tweet but it's an act of futility. You're not really making any impact. It might be a great promotional tool but just to make small talk, it's crazy.

    "If you find yourself in a mood when you wanna be a bit controversial and you post something, you suddenly realize, 'Oh my God!' because you've opened yourself up to a bunch of criticism from strangers." Of course, he was back a month later.

  • Shia LaBeouf

    @thecampaignbook

    After a public Twitter war with his 'Orphans' costar Alec Baldwin in February 2013, Shia LaBeouf left the microblogging site for a while. He returned shortly thereafter, promising to tweet more professionally and mostly sticking to promotional retweets.

  • Kim Kardashian

    @KimKardashian

    Kim Kardashian let her Twitter go dark for World AIDS Day in 2010, urging followers to donate to Keep a Child Alive to get her back. Unfortunately, the method may have backfired, because the $1 million goal wasn't met -- and she came back before the fund was in the black.
