Children’s Book Authors to Read at Main Library

David Jal and Laura K. Jacobs will read and discuss their new children’s book, 'David’s Journey,' the story of David Jal, one of the Lost Boys of the Sudan, at 3 p.m. on Saturday, November 17, 2012, at the Main Branch of Siouxland Libraries.

'David’s Journey' is the inspirational story of David Jal, who as a young boy was forced to leave his Sudanese village in Khor Wakow because of war. David joined the military at age eight, was separated from his family, and lost most of his siblings during the war. He later came to South Dakota as a refugee and went on to earn his B.A. from the University of South Dakota and M.S.W. from the University of North Dakota. He currently lives in Sioux Falls. Coauthor Laura K. Jacobs received her M.A. in counseling from the University of North Dakota and is a juvenile probation officer in Sioux Falls.

Mr. Jal will also talk about his recent return to South Sudan and his project to build a school, dig water wells, and install automated corn grinding mills in his home village of Khor Wakow. Copies of the book will be available for purchase and signing by the authors. All proceeds from the sale of the book will go toward the Khor Wakow School Project.
