A close call for an elderly couple has turned into a strict reminder for everyone from Minnesota's New Ulm Police Department, Minnesota's Brown County Sheriff's office and the Minnesota State Patrol. That reminder from authorities is a simple one: make sure all items you may be hauling in a pickup or on a trailer are properly secured!

Things could have ended a lot worse for an elderly couple that were following a pickup pulling a trailer on Minnesota Highway 14 west of New Ulm, Minnesota. A large piece of scrap plywood, that wasn't properly secured on a trailer, flew off and pierced the windshield of the elderly couple's car.

Thankfully, the couple in the car, who have been identified by the Minnesota State Patrol as a 71-year old male and 68-year old female, were taken to a near-by hospital with non-life threatening injuries. But thanks to pictures on the New Ulm Public Safety Facebook page, you can see just how close of a call it really was.
