A construction worker working on a water and sewer replacement project in Emery has his co-workers to thank for saving his life.

KDLT News is reporting the man, part of an 8-man crew from a Fort Pierre construction company was nearly buried alive when the water-sewer trench he was working in collapsed on Tuesday (May 23).

According to the KDLT News, the man was completely covered in dirt, with the exception of one of his hands. It was the quick action taken by his co-workers that ultimately saved his life.

It took about 5 minutes for co-workers aided by EMT members on scene to uncover the man's head, and nearly another 30 minutes to completely uncover him.

The man, who has yet to be identified, was hospitalized after the incident and is expected to make a full recovery.
