Coldest Weather of Winter Is Here
We’re just starting January and already it feels like it’s the coldest, snowiest winter we’ve had in years (and that may not be far from the truth as we’ve been lucky with fairly mild winters over the past couple of years) but the National Weather Service in Sioux Falls is predicting the coldest weather of the season into Tuesday (January 4-7, 2014)
Temperatures will fall to -22 Sunday night in Sioux Falls with a ‘high’ Monday around -10 but wind chills approaching -50. With that news, the National Weather Service has issued a Wind Chill Warning from 6am Sunday through 6am Tuesday for Sioux Falls and the entire region.
Most area schools, including the Sioux Falls school district, have cancelled classes for Monday (January 6) Get the complete list of cancellations here.
The cold temperatures are expected to last at least into Tuesday with air temperatures maybe creeping into the single digits above zero, but wind chills remaining in the -25 range.
The long term forecast looks much better though with highs warming back into the low 30s by next weekend. Stay safe through these next few days.
Be prepared. It’s a new year, but the same winter.
