A fire at the site of the recently demolished Corson Elevator is under control. Safe passage on South Dakota Highway 11 is now allowed.

At daybreak, the fire was reported which started in a wood pile that was left behind after the Corson Elevator was taken down. Initial reports deem the fire to be started accidentally.

Fire Departments from Brandon, Baltic and Crooks helped monitor the fire. The proximity of the wood pile to Highway 11 necessitated the closure of the road for about five hours.

No injuries were reported from the conflagration. For a time, the Bottoms Up Bar was protected by spraying water on the building.

Calm weather conditions are allowing for the minimum maintenance approach. It is believed that authorities plan let the fire burn itself out.
