My friendship with racer Darrin Korthals goes back 17 years. Since that time, I have personally announced hundreds of races that he's been in.

I know what I'm talking about when I say he's one fantastic race car driver. The Rock Rapids, Iowa racer has a record number of wins and many track championships.

Korthals has more wins than any driver in the history of Rapid Speedway in Rock Rapids, Iowa. He is a two time track champion at Huset's Speedway in Brandon, South Dakota.

With Darrin, it's all about running good equipment, racing hard and clean driving. But more importantly, it's about family.

The 2014 season was one of his best. I asked Darrin what it takes to put a winning season like that together. He told me, "You have to have a good car, team and a little luck doesn't hurt."

We talked about his team. We also talked about a typical week in the life of racing one night a week.

We talked also about his profession in the trucking business. He now manages and sits behind a desk. But he used to drive the big rigs. Darrin told me, "I drove truck for over 20 years."
