Saturday night, in an attempt to recapture our youths, my wife and I went to the Def Leppard/Styx/Tesla concert at the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center. OK, to be fair, it was less a youth recapturing quest and more of a take advantage of living in a city that bands come to sort of an event. Growing up in rural Nebraska didn't afford many opportunities to see concerts that didn't involve a two-day trip to Denver. We took what we could get, which is why the first concert I remember going to was The Jets (what's up fellow Cheyenne County Fair attendees from 1980-something).

Anyways, about Saturday's show, it was great! Two things about the night; one, I have to say 'great job Sioux Falls.' This was my first concert at the PREMIER Center. With several thousand people trying to get in and out, it was the most pleasant giant crowd of people experience I've ever had. It was tight quarters and I had to work to keep my 'what if the zombies come while I'm in this giant crowd' anxiety in check. I can only speak for the thousand people that surrounded me, but well done not being a bunch of pushy jerks everybody.

Two, don't believe the hype, Joe Elliot sounded great. He was fighting through a bout of laryngitis and couldn't hit some of the higher notes. I know I can't work as hard he did when I'm sick. It was awesome, Def Leppard was the highlight of the night. They hit all their best songs starting with "Rock! Rock! (Till You Drop)" and ending with "Photograph."

Message from Joe....Hey Sioux Falls, South Dakota! Last nite as I'm sure you noticed, my voice completely went out, a...

Here's Def Leppard the set-list from the show:

“Rock! Rock! (Till You Drop)”
“Animal”
“Foolin'”
“Promises”
“Paper Sun”
“Love Bites”
“Armageddon It”
“Bass Solo”
“Rock On” (David Essex cover)
“Two Steps Behind”
“Rocket”
“Bringin' on the Heartbreak”
“Switch 625”
“Hysteria”
“Let's Get Rocked”
“Pour Some Sugar on Me”
Encore:
“Rock of Ages”
“Photograph”

Styx's performance was great as well. I've never been a huge Styx guy, but I knew all the songs and and really enjoyed their show. Even though they didn't do "Mr. Roboto." I know what you're thinking, 'why wouldn't the great rock band pull out that 80's novelty song that most people make fun of, but Ben genuinely likes?' I know right? And if I could get Prince to acknowledge the greatness of "Batdance" I'd be a happy man. I'm not kidding, I love both those songs.

And it seems that I am a Tesla fan and didn't even know it. Going in, the only song I could think of was "Love Song" but, I knew almost every word to every song they played. No wonder I failed every math class I ever took, my brain is full of the lyrics to nearly every song that came out between 1982 and 1994.
