There were a lot of events this past weekend in Sioux Falls like the Sidewalk Arts Festival, German Fest, President's Bowl and the Buddy Walk.  With so many local events, a movie must've been the last thing on people's minds.

Maybe the drop in numbers at the box office over the weekend can be attributed to the transition from summer into fall.  The biggest hit on the big screen over the weekend made under $10 million!  The Possession was the number one movie in America for the second weekend in a row with a box office take of $9.5 million.

Revenues at the box office are expected to total no more than $67 million, making this past weekend the lowest earning since the one just after the attacks on September 11, 2001.

Shia LaBeouf's Lawless made $6 million, good enough for 2nd place and not even Bradley Cooper's appearance in the movie The Words could help that earn more than $5 million.

Next weekend looks a lot better.  Finding Nemo, Resident Evil:  Retribution, and 10 Years starring Channing Tatum open September 14.
