With areas of frost over recent days, many people were covering up their flowers. But what about the farmers and their plants?

Did the frost do damage to the new corn in the ground? The corn producers I talked to say there are no worries.

Because the growing point of the plant is in the ground. Plants may be thru the soil, but the actual growing point is protected underground.

However if the frost is hard enough, then there's trouble. Corn tissue is not able to survive freezing temperatures, and so a spring frost that penetrates to the young corn plant’s growing point will kill the crop.

However, corn exposed to freezing temperatures after emergence will generally recover with minimal impact on the crop’s eventual yield potential.

Weather conditions after the freeze temperatures influence speed and extent of recovery, with sunny, warm, and breezy conditions being optimum.
