Do You Experience Facebook Envy? [POLL]

One thing is certain if you spend any amount of time on Facebook - you're going to see other people bragging about their lives.  Intentionally or unintentionally, there are lots and lots of photos and status updates tell you all about what they're up to, and you're not.

For me, I don't think anything of it.  After all, I joined Facebook to keep track of what my friends are up to.  I expect to see all of the snapshots of their latest trip to Hawaii, read details of their honor roll kids, and hear all about how much their spouse spoils them.  It doesn't bother me because I probably do lots of the same things.  I don't look at it as a competition.  I'm happy for you - you should be happy for me.

But not everyone sees it that way.

When you think of a color associated with Facebook, you think blue right? Blue logo, blue page borders, but according to some new research in Germany, there's another color that's becoming synonymous with the social media giant - green.  As in green with envy.

A study conducted by two German universities finds that one on three of us get mighty jealous when we see our friends vacation pictures, stories of their love lives, birthday greetings, and their work successes posted on Facebook. That same one in three of us feel more dissatisfied with their lives after seeing what other people are up to on Facebook.

So who's the most likely to be jealous?

People aged in their mid-30s were most likely to envy family happiness while women were more likely to envy physical attractiveness.

The research also found that our evny makes us brag more on our Facebook pages, all in an attempt to portray ourselves in a better light.  For men, it's touting accomplishments, for women, it's showing off physical appearance to boasting about an active social life.
