Do You Know All the 80’s and 90’s Pop Culture References?
I write because I love it.
I write to process pain, heal wounds, burn off anger and resentments.
I write to to try making sense of sadness, work out the madness, to try and balance the scales of this journey a little.
I write to hustle hope, love and laughter.
I write for fun, to make some spare cash for dog food and tattoos.
Sometimes I write to impress people(just being honest).
I wrote the first line of Feed Fred’s Fish 3 years ago. I am a strong believer in hammering out the ditch digging and heavy lifting in writing, but sometimes the words don’t come until they are ready.
Write it. Remember it. Record it. That’s my process for this style of poem. The process of recording outside during a South Dakota winter makes things interesting. The wind gets wild. The bright pink and orange paintbrush sunrises can come and go in 5 minutes, and the cold crushes my battery.
After trying countless hours this week I settled for my go to in the vehicle wind block shot.
Like most of us I’ve been trying to dissolve and sift through all the noise and thick fog of confusion that is so heavy with anger and light on solution. Seems the suggestions throughout history are always the same: Everyone else needs to change. There is so much yelling across the isles, and over the heads of the children drinking in our actions. Kids who are looking to us for comfort, wisdom, foundation, and adult like presence.
I hope you find some words in Feed Fred’s Fish worth carrying with you. I got nothing but love for you and your journey. I like you just the way you are.
And a bonus hi-five goes to anyone who knows all the 80's and 90's pop culture references.
