Where would we be without the many volunteers who are there for us?

Those that spend countless of hours assisting agencies for non profit. Those who take the time to make someone's life richer. An individual who goes above and beyond to make the world around us a better place.

The Sioux Falls Downtown Lions Club will host a celebration to honor local teens for their volunteerism.

The event will be Tuesday, March 15, 2016 at the Downtown Holiday Inn. 67 students will be recognized for their commitment to volunteer service. SALSA (Serve and Learn Student Association) is a program of the Helpline Center that engages high school students in making a difference in our community through volunteering.

The youth are all members of SALSA, which is the Leo Club for the Downtown Lions. It is the largest Leo Club in the world with over 1,500 participants. The youth honored at the event have all volunteered at least 50 hours in the past 12 months with many having volunteered over 100 hours in the same time frame. The partnership between the Downtown Lions and the SALSA program started eleven years ago when the Lions adopted SALSA as its LEO club.

Mayor Mike Huether, Sioux Falls Superintendent Dr. Brian Maher, and Brandon Valley High School Principal Dr. Gregg Talcott will be on hand to offer their comments on youth service, and the Downtown Lions will also announce their nominee for the International Leo of the Year Award for 2016.
