Congratulations are in order for Sir Elton John and his now-husband David Furnish! The two longtime partners got married yesterday (Dec. 21) at their estate near Windsor Castle.

Elton and David celebrated their wedding on the ninth anniversary of their civil partnership and not quite a year after legislation was officially passed allowing same-sex marriage in England.

“We shouldn’t just say, ‘Oh well, we have a civil partnership, we’re not going to bother to get married,’” Elton said in an interview shortly after the same-sex marriage legislation passed. (Quote via the Hollywood Reporter.)

Although it was the ninth anniversary of their civil partnership, Elton and David met 20 years ago, in 1993, through their HIV and AIDS awareness and charity work.

True to Elton’s style, the event was an elegant affair complete with an A-list guest list, gorgeous decorations and lots of love. Included in the celeb-filled guest list was Adele, who couldn’t attend, but sent along a sweet apology note – signed by the ‘Someone Like You’ powerhouse, her husband Simon Konecki and their son Angelo -- captured in one of Elton’s Instagram photos:

The iconic singer documented more of the beautiful ceremony, including photos of he and David signing their official marriage license, plus a photo taken by their son Zachary of their other son, Elijah, during the ceremony. Check out that and more below.

Our best wishes to the happy newlyweds!
