March is Endometriosis Awareness Month
March is Endometriosis Awareness Month. I sometimes joke about how I only have one ovary, but endometriosis isn’t funny.
It can be very painful, in some cases women suffer from chronic pain. It can cause infertility and can be very expensive to treat.
What is endometriosis?
It has to do with the lining of the uterus. The uterus and other reproductive organs grow sores on the outside and when the scar tissue and sores keep building up it can be very painful and cause problems with the bladder and bowels.
While it is not the prettiest topic of conversation it is still worth talking about. Endometriosis can cause severe pain especially during the menstrual cycle. It is much worse than a normal menstrual cycle and can be very harmful to the reproductive organs.
While it is not fatal, there is no cure and it is something some women have to deal with and treat their whole lives. Usually ending in a hysterectomy.
I’m not a doctor, however, so I found this enlightening informational video to explain the disease, its diagnosis, and treatments.
Padma Lakshmi was a guest co-host on the The View and she opened up about her experiences with Endometriosis. She has been very vocal in spreading awareness and raising money for research. Padma is the co-founder of Endometriosis Foundation of America. You can find out more about endometriosis and ways to help by going to the foundation’s website endofound.org
Well said, Padma!
Here in Sioux Falls a new Endometriosis Support Group has sprung up. Look for their meetings on their Facebook page and at the Caille Branch Public Library.
So to all my #EndoWarriors out there, stay strong. And if you any of this sounded familiar to you, talk to your doctor.
Wear yellow sometime this month to spread awareness and show support for all the women living with endometriosis.
In the last few years, a couple more famous faces have come out with their stories about having and living with endometriosis.

Hey Beloved Pals,I just wanted to let you know that, while I am so excited for Girls to return on Feb 21, I won’t be…
Personally, I recently found out a treatment I have been using for five years to treat my endometriosis is causing me to lose bone density. So it is back to the drawing board about what to do. It really is a never ending battle, but hopefully with research and awareness we will eventually win the war.
