Facebook Makes People Depressed
The more you use Facebook, the less joy you will have in your life.
This according to a new study from the University of Michigan, and based on the findings, it sounds like smoking might actually be healthier for you than Facebook is.
Research has found the more you use Facebook, the more your friends start to hate you and the more you start to hate yourself in real life.
As people used Facebook, they found themselves less happy and less satisfied. Sure users felt more connected, but that didn’t necessarily translate into feeling less lonely.
The study showed, quote “On the service, Facebook provides an invaluable resource for social connection. But rather than enhancing a person’s well-being, it undermines it.”
Using Facebook has a tendency to bum people out, and researchers aren’t sure why. They say further studies will need to be conducted to determine the reason.
I would imagine the most common cause of Facebook frustration comes from users comparing themselves socially to their friends.
Let’s face it, if your best friend just posted a bunch of pictures of his or her vacation in the Bahamas, and you spent your vacation kickin’ it on the streets of Beresford, you’re bound to feel a little dissatisfied!
When you couple that with the fact that perhaps you have fewer comments, likes and general feedback than most of your peers, you’re going to have a feeling of inadequacy over the “lack of attention” you’re getting. Therefore making you a frustrated Facebook user.
