Farmers New Trend…Felfies!
The word “selfie” was one of Oxford Dictionary’s most annoying words of 2013. But now there is a new phenomenon on the internet and the phase is going viral in a hurry. It’s called “felfies” and they are pretty self-explanatory. Felfies are farmer selfies.
The idea of felfies seems to have started with a farmer’s son from the United Kingdom. William Wilson found a contest published in Irish Farmer Journal, asking for the best selfie taken on a farm. Because the trend has become so popular, websites like farmingselfie.com and fellfies.com have been created just for felfies to be posted on what can be a fickle internet.
Wilson, who now runs farmingselfie.com, says that the felfies are fun to look at, but they also serve a pretty important purpose. He says,
Self portraits from farmers around the world doing their best to keep everyone fed. We hope with this website we can put a face to the farmers who work to put food on your table.
To get an idea of what felfies look like, I had my husband, Steve, a dairy farmer from Parker, South Dakota, submit his version of a felfie, from right here in KIKN Country. To prove that felfies are going viral, here are some felfies from around the world.
Sophie Hope is from the UK.
Brian Fossay is from Manitoba, Canada.
