A child's birthday party is supposed to be a time of celebration, not controversy.

A little girl in Memphis wrote a letter to a friend informing her she wasn't allowed to go to her birthday party because the birthday girl is black.

The letter, penned ironically and  somewhat perkily in a multitude of colors, states:

Maybe I will not be able to go to your birthday sleepover because my dad will not let me go because you are black.”

The party was for Harmony Jones, 10, whose father, Christopher, was surprised by the excuse. "It angered me a little bit, it hurt me that my 10-year-old girl had to deal with this, and I myself never thought I would have to deal with this,” he said.

This is the latest example of racism to raise eyebrows in recent weeks. Earlier in March, the University of Oklahoma was rocked by a racist fraternity chant that was captured on video.
