To prepare for the possibility of putting on extra pounds here’s a deck of an idea. Use some playing cards for more than just cribbage.

It’s something for the whole family to do and based on your current activity level can be modified for the less able or the extremely fit. The 54 cards within a regular deck each have a certain value for different exercises.

Mind you this concept was discovered on skinnymommyfitness.com and is probably in other forms elsewhere. See if you can keep up or start slow to build your way toward the muscle needed to meet the challenge.

Here’s your guide to the exercise: Pull a heart from the stack, do situps for the corresponding number on the card. For a diamond the exercise is burpees, squats for clubs and push-ups for spades. Ace through ten you do the number of reps on the card and go up the chain to 11 for the Jack, 12 for a Queen and a King is 13 reps. The Joker will get you five reps of each. Complete the exercise and rest for 30 seconds before drawing another card.

The goal is to get through the entire deck of cards. Might have to start slow or even substitute exercises to get there. Jumping jacks or lunges would be fine. If it means lunging toward that second piece of pumpkin pie, that’s even better.
