When Ryan Doumit’s two-run triple in the ninth inning gave the Minnesota Twins a 5-4 win over the Seattle Mariners, Saturday afternoon at Target Field, it also marked the first major league victory for former South Dakota State pitcher Caleb Thielbar.
Theilbar came on in relief in the top of the ninth, with the Twins trailing 4-2. He retired the Mariners after giving up a single to Endy Chavez, then getting Jason Bay to ground into a double play, before striking out Kyle Seager. Theilbar threw 15 pitches, eight for strikes.
The appearance was the sixth of his major league career since being called up May 20th. He’s now 1-0 and has still not allowed an earned run in 7.1 innings of work. Over that stretch he’s allowed three hits and two walks, while striking out nine.
