Sunday it was a sunny and hot 90 degree fall day. We were enjoying one of the few nice days left this year.

One thing that was very noticeable around our house was the abundance of ladybugs. I mean they were everywhere.

My six year old son, like little boys do, was having fun playing with them. He was in amazement as they crawled onto his finger and so on.

He asked me what they were doing. The only answer I could come up with, was maybe they're looking for a place to be for winter.

That put the idea into his head to bring one in the house for a place to be. Being the type of dad that I am, I agreed providing he would take care of it.

Now for the how to care for part. First of all, nobody wants to be alone. So we decided to bring in four of them.

What do ladybugs eat? They eat aphids out in their natural habitat. Aphids are pests that feed on plants, so farmers and gardeners need to know that ladybugs are their friend for eating aphids.

I'm sorry but I just don't have any aphids in my food pantry to give our four new friends. So I did some research and found that there are things to feed a pet ladybug.

You can feed them raisins that have been soaked in water for a few minutes. They also will enjoy a little clump of honey. Give them water via a wet paper towel.

Give them some twigs, leaves and grass for a nice environment. Don't forget plenty of air holes and the bigger the container the better. Avoid using a glass jar in direct sunlight.

I hate to sound rude, but Joe, Carl, Greg and Victor will be kicked out of our house in the spring and from that point on, be on their own. I will no longer be supporting them.
