Spending 10 days on vacation two states away can add up.

But, my wife and I saved through the year just for this trip. We allow ourselves to splurge when we go away for a long trip.  We deserve it.  And so do you.

Getting to that point takes planning and some sacrifices.  Like finding ways to save money in ways that many people just don't think of.

For instance, when was the last time you sat in front of the TV to go through all the channels in that premium subscription?  How many of those channels to you actually watch each month?

Another tip from Yahoo Finance is to buy generic.  You may think you're sacrificing quality,  but you're not.  Fancy brands cost more mainly because of the packaging.

Take it easy with coupons.  They seem like they're saving you money.  But they actually make you buy things you normally wouldn't, because you're getting a deal.

Never pay full retail price.  Almost all consumer goods go on sale at some point, and that's when you should buy them.

Don't buy suggested add-ons.  Rental car workers are trained to get you to buy their insurance, when your own insurance policy probably covers you.  Those kinds of extra fees can add-up over time, so learn to say no.
And next years vacation will seem a little more enjoyable.
