It was almost two years ago that Amazon landed the potential Galaxy Quest TV series, which hit an understandable snag with the passing of star Alan Rickman. Now, Amazon has decided never to give up or surrender, hiring comedian Paul Scheer to rework a new TV take on the Star Trek spoof.

Per The Hollywood Reporter, The League alum Scheer will write a script for the reboot series, taking over from original film writer Robert Gordon. Reports identify Amazon’s Galaxy Quest as “a new take on the cult movie,” though it isn’t clear if any original cast like Tim Allen, Sigourney Weaver, Sam Rockwell, Tony Shalhoub, Daryl Mitchell or Justin Long might play a role.

For those unfamiliar with the 1999 hit, Galaxy Quest saw the cast of a Star Trek analogue drafted into an actual outer space conflict, as an alien race mistook the show’s heroic exploits for actual adventures of a real-life crew. The prior attempt at a series cooled in the wake of both Rickman’s death, and Tim Allen’s now-ended role in ABC’s Last Man Standing.

It’s early yet, but with Star Trek back on the TV rise, is there hope for Amazon’s Galaxy Quest series?
