My summer vacation consisted of a 2-day trip to Mount Ayr, Iowa for a family reunion.  Not exactly glamorous, I know, but it was a chance to get away from work for a few days.  Google maps has released an infographic that details how Americans spent their summer vacations.

From May to September 2012, national parks occupied the top six spots on the list.  Park regions in the West were the most popular.  Here's the top 10:

  1. Death Valley National Park
  2. Redwood National Park
  3. Yosemite National Park
  4. Sequoia National Park
  5. Waimea Canyon
  6. Grand Canyon
  7. Empire State Building
  8. Myrtle Beach
  9. Niagra Falls
  10. Times Square

What?  No Fort Randall Dam?

Camping was also popular among Americans.  The U.S. was 2nd behind France when it came to roasting marshmallows over the the campfire.  I didn't even know the French camped.
