How long did your last meeting go?  Was it just a few minutes standing in the hallway?  Or maybe with the entire staff that took over an hour?

There are many businesses and organizations that have meetings daily, weekly or sometimes only when there's something important to cover.

If you've been at the same job for several years and in the same line of work consider the number of meetings you sat through in your career.

According to a new survey, you sit through 6,239 meetings in your career.  And the top five ways we get through them are doodling, daydreaming about the weekend, thinking about dinner, zoning out, and looking around at other people in the room.

Here are the top ten things we do to get through them:

  1. Doodling
  2. Daydreaming about what you'll do on the weekend
  3. Thinking about what you'll have for dinner
  4. Zoning out, or staring out a window
  5. Looking around at other people in the room
  6. Thinking about what's on TV that night
  7. Thinking about how much you hate your job
  8. Checking Twitter or Facebook
  9. Texting
  10. Making a shopping list
