There are towns and cities in South Dakota that are lucky enough to be on the main roads. Case and point, Sioux Falls. We're right on the hub of I-90 and I-29. We won the lottery when it comes to being in the right place at the right time.

Then, there are other towns that couldn't be more removed if they tried. Towns like Monroe, SD.

Monroe, SD is a quiet little town in Turner County. Quiet might be putting it lightly. It's small and it's off the beaten path. Probably just the way the 160 or so residents that call Monroe home like it.

This weekend things could be a little different. I follow "Becca" on my Facebook news feed. She's been telling me all about Jake's Place in Monroe, that I'm supposed to go to some time.

I would imagine that they will be one of the instigators of this little event called Monroe Freedom Days this weekend. According to notes I've seen, they'll have a poker run, fireworks, good food and cold beer and even a band playing called Roller Shop.

So, do you need a compass to get there? Not really. Monroe is west of Sioux Falls on Highway 42. Instead of turning north to Lake Vermillion turn south and follow the signs (thanks Tami).

But don't blink. Monroe ain't much. But this weekend, look out. Things could be different. If you're looking for some small town fun on July 11, Monroe, South Dakota is the place.

And someday soon, I'm gonna get me a tomato beer and a burger at this Jake's Place. Ever been there?

If you've ever lived in a small town, or wished you did, make sure you share this story with your Facebook and Twitter friends. Those bigger city folks looking for a good time, need to know!
