You're in a hurry, you're on the road and you're starving. You could drive through a plethora of fast food places, choose a fat-laden, lukewarm entree or side for a snack to see you through, until that next healthy meal you've planned- -or you could stop at a gas station or convenience store and grab something healthy.

If you're thinking this is not in the realm of reality, you must; A.) always pay at the pump, B.) have your limo driver run in to pay for gas, or C.) never get out of your vehicle to stretch your legs, buy a soda and do some snack reconnaissance in the building housing your gas station or convenience store.

These days there are a ton of healthy items to be found which can satisfy your hunger and boost your energy without ruining your quest for health. Here are just five of them from Cheat Sheet:

  • Almonds- loaded with healthy fats & protein, these little buggers are really a go-to, good-for-you snack. Watch for the heavily salted ones though.
  • Bananas or apples - both offer fiber and good nutrients, but the 'nanners in particular, offer potassium, magnesium and other nutrients you might be short on.
  • String cheese - Low fat, or even whole fat (which may be even better for you, believe it or not) with protein, calcium and healthy carbs.
  • Dark chocolate - High in antioxidants and may even help curb your cravings & therefore keep you on the healthy weight track.
  • Veggies - I mention this one with a caveat (see link above) because- - ever since I discovered the processing and packaging of pre-cut vegetables can lead to certain types of food-poisoning, I myself am leery. That being said this can be a healthy snack option.

Bon apetit!
