The Helpline Center is excited to announce it's launching a new texting feature to connect individuals to resources in their community.

All residents in the 211 service area can now text their zip code to the shortcode – 898211. The text message will then be answered by a trained Helpline Specialist.

According to Janet Kittams-Lalley, Presidnet of the Helpline Center, the texting feature will allow a more comfortable method for folks to connect with resources in the area.

“We’re thrilled to launch texting to meet the needs of those who prefer text messaging over a phone call. Whether through a phone call, text message, or an email, we encourage residents to reach out in the method most comfortable to them to connect with resources available in the area.”

The Helpline Center has operated the 211 Helpline since 2001, answering over 50 thousand calls each year. The line provides service to 14 different counties.

The counties served are Beadle, Bon Homme, Brookings, Butte, Custer, Fall River, Lawrence, Lincoln, McCook, Meade, Minnehaha, Pennington, Turner, and Yankton.
