I know a lot of people who are NOT on Facebook because "they don't want the world to know their business." I say, if you don't want the world to know your business, set your Facebook to private and only share what you want people to know.

Do you know how to set your Facebook to private? Do you care if old boyfriends and acquaintances see your pictures and posts on Facebook?

If you'd prefer to only have the friends you have chosen see your Facebook posts and pictures, here's what you need to do.

First of all, see what your page looks like to people who are not your friends.

  • Go to your profile page on a computer and select "View As" from the button with three dots at the top right. This gives you the option to see what part of your profile is visible to the public, as well as to specific individuals.

Check your privacy settings.

  • On a computer, log into Facebook and click on the padlock icon in the upper right-hand corner of your homepage, select "Privacy Checkup," and follow the steps.

Review pictures you're tagged in before they post to your timeline.

  • In the upper right hand corner of your Facebook page, there is an upside down triangle. Click on that and choose Settings. On the left hand side of the page, choose Timeline and Tagging. You can opt to get the chance to review photos before they go up.

How to limit who can contact you and who can look you up.

  • In the upper right hand corner of your Facebook page, there is an upside down triangle. Click on that and choose Settings. On the left hand side of the page, choose Privacy. You can limit who can contact you and through Facebook and outside of Facebook.
